NovelChat is a Microsoft Word add-in issued by DigitalCube. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.
Summary. NovelChat has no servers of its own. Nothing typed, written, or configured in NovelChat is sent to or stored by NovelChat. All data remains on your own computer. Conversations go directly from your device to the AI provider you select. NovelChat is not part of that exchange.
Nothing. NovelChat has no backend server, no account system, and no database. There is no way for DigitalCube to see your messages, documents, API keys, or how you use the add-in. This data does not leave your computer, because there is no server to receive it.
NovelChat stores the following locally, in your browser or Word add-in storage, on your own device only:
This data is stored in plain, unencrypted form on your device, consistent with how most browser-based applications store local data. Anyone with access to your computer or user profile can read it directly. If you share your computer with others, or if your device is lost or compromised, treat any saved API key with the same caution as a password. Uninstalling the add-in or clearing your browser or Word storage removes this data permanently.
When you send a message in NovelChat, it goes directly from your computer to the AI provider you have configured, for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or another compatible service, using your own account and API key. NovelChat does not generate AI content, does not see the response before it reaches you, and has no ability to view, store, or control what is sent or received in that exchange.
Your AI provider handles your data under its own privacy policy and terms, which are separate from this one and outside NovelChat's control. Review your provider's privacy policy to understand how it handles the messages and content you send.
NovelChat can read text selected in your Word document, using Microsoft's Office Add-in APIs. This happens locally within Word. Selected text is sent onward only if you attach it to a message, in which case it is sent to your AI provider the same way as any typed message. NovelChat does not write or insert content into your document.
NovelChat does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising cookies. DigitalCube has no visibility into how many people use the add-in, which features are used, or whether errors occur, unless reported directly.
NovelChat is not directed at children. Depending on the content written and the AI provider selected, generated content may include mature themes. Whether a given AI provider produces that kind of content, and any related age requirements, is governed by that provider's own policies, not by NovelChat. Users are responsible for complying with their chosen provider's terms, including any applicable age restrictions.
